About this app

Fieldnotes is a structured observation logger for researchers, UX practitioners, and field study teams. Type or paste raw observations into a quick-entry form, tag each one with custom codes, and a live sidebar instantly tallies tag frequency to surface emerging patterns. All observations are timestamped and stored per user. Click any tag to filter the observation list and isolate matching entries. The tag frequency bar chart updates in real time as you add observations, helping you spot research themes without leaving the interface. Built for rapid capture and pattern recognition with no external dependencies.

How to use

  1. Type your observation
Enter raw field notes into the text input on the left pane. Include as much detail as needed about what you observed.
  2. Add custom tags
Enter tag codes such as 'usability', 'navigation', or 'pain-point' to label the observation. You can add multiple tags to a single entry.
  3. Submit the observation
Click submit. The observation appears instantly in the list on the right with a timestamp.
  4. Watch tag frequency update
The live sidebar bar chart updates immediately to reflect the new tag counts across all your observations.
  5. Filter by clicking a tag
Click any tag chip in the sidebar or on an observation card to filter the list and show only matching observations.
  6. Clear the filter
Click the filter toggle or clear button to remove the tag filter and display your complete observation list again.
  7. Spot patterns as you log
As you add more observations, the tag frequency chart grows and co-occurring themes become visible in real time.
